TAGDV Profile


The Tamil Association of Greater Delaware Valley (TAGDV) is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and/or scientific purposes under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Founded in 1970 by Indian expatriates from Tamil Nadu, India and serves the geographical tri-state area around Philadelphia includes the South East PA, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware.

Membership consists of mostly professionals and number about 500, and are mostly from India.  Sri Lankan diaspora is less than 5%.




It is a family-centric organization with the goal of preserving Tamil Culture and Language


We run 2 Tamil Schools (PA and Delaware) and we are affiliated with the Tamil Virtual University based in Chennai.

Working on an Accreditation of Tamil as an official second language in American School System in collaboration with American Tamil Academy (ATA)

We celebrate Pongal (January), Tamil New Years (April)  and Deepavalli (November) with big events.

We hold several competitions annually for children and adults.  Spelling Bee, Thirukural recital, Poetry, drawing, and other art disciplines.

We have annual picnics and sports days including a Tennis day which includes a tennis tournament for adults and children held in July.

Avoids political activism, but is engaged in increasing awareness of humanitarian crisis of Sri Lankan Tamils


“Sangamam” magazine, published twice a year to encourage interest towards Tamil literature
